Abstract:

Borobudur Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with great potential to be developed as a sustainable global center for spiritual tourism. With its rich history, deep spiritual values, and architecture full of philosophical meaning, Borobudur offers a unique destination that combines religious, cultural, and contemplative experiences. This study examines the internal strengths and external opportunities of the Borobudur Temple within the context of sustainable spiritual tourism, employing a qualitative and conceptual approach grounded in a literature review. Borobudur has strong potential to become a sustainable global spiritual tourism center, supported by its natural surroundings, rich cultural heritage, spiritual significance, and community engagement. An integrated strategy that combines conservation, cultural preservation, and local empowerment is recommended. Future research should focus on building a community-based Buddhist framework to create meaningful, transformative, and sustainable experiences for visitors.
