The 1st Payung Negeri International Health Conference

Healthcare delivery is developing continually through the dissemination of health-related research results. The complexity of health problems needs solutions by conducting research. The lecturers at each university in Indonesia should follow “tridarma perguruan tinggi” (the basic principles to run the higher education process from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education which consists of teaching, research, and community service). The result of the research should be published in national and international journals or conferences.

Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan (STIKes) Payung Negeri Pekanbaru is one of the private health schools in Riau Province. As the oldest health school in Riau, STIKes Payung Negeri Pekanbaru has already conducted several health conferences and seminars. However, an International scale conference is still seldom and not common in Riau Province. We need to initiate the first international health conference in Riau Province. The low numbers of health-related research publication in Riau Province is the motivating factor for us to conduct this health conference with theme: “The innovation of Science and Technology in Healthcare Delivery.”

The 1st Payung Negeri International Health Conference (PANIHC) 2018 is the first bi-annual event that covered health themes such as nursing, medical science, midwifery, and public health. The participants of this conference were healthcare practitioners (nurses, physicians, midwifes), healthcare lectures, and healthcare researchers. The conference was held on 25–26 October 2018 at Mutiara Merdeka Hotel, Pekanbaru, Indonesia. There were 55 participants in the conference and more than 700 participants in the seminars by the keynote speakers.

The keynote speakers came from Japan, Australia, and Indonesia. They are experts in their field. Hiromi Ogasawara, PhD, who is a nursing practitioner from Japan, talked about the qualitative research to improve the assessment skills of the nurses. Professor Valerie Wilson from the University of Wollongong Australia delivered the innovation of science and technology in nursing practice.
