Abstract:

The increasing use of social media has influenced the way people view themselves and others, especially in terms of body image, self-esteem, and social popularity. This study aims to explore the perceptions and experiences of Bataknese students regarding their body image, self-esteem, and perceived popularity in the context of social media use. Through a qualitative case study approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with Bataknese students to explore the perceptions and psychological dynamics that shape how they present themselves online. The results showed that social media content and evaluations from family and peers can have an impact on self-esteem and body image. Meanwhile, popularity on social media was found to be closely related to naturally talented individuals.
