Gulf Education and Social Policy Review Launches Best Article Award to Recognise Research Excellence
On April 1, 2026

The Gulf Education and Social Policy Review (GESPR) has announced the introduction of its Best Article Award, a new initiative designed to recognise outstanding scholarship in education and social policy across the Gulf region. As an open access and bilingual journal, GESPR has consistently positioned itself as a platform for rigorous, policy-relevant research. This award marks a further step in reinforcing those commitments.
The award will be conferred biannually and will recognise one article that exemplifies the journal’s standards of academic excellence and real-world impact. Eligible works include all research articles and policy commentaries published within the journal over a two-year period, with no application required from authors. Instead, submissions are automatically considered, ensuring an inclusive and comprehensive review process.
The selection process involves two stages. In the first stage, the journal’s editorial team nominates up to ten articles that best reflect the award criteria. These shortlisted works are then independently evaluated by the GESPR Advisory Board. This two-tiered approach aligns with best practices in academic publishing, ensuring both rigour and fairness in the final decision.
The award includes a cash prize of AED 5,000, an official certificate of recognition, and featured promotion through GESPR and the Al Qasimi Foundation’s communication channels. Beyond the tangible rewards, however, the recognition signals a broader endorsement of research that meaningfully contributes to academic discourse, policy development, and professional practice in the Gulf and beyond.
Articles are assessed based on their relevance to the Gulf region, originality, methodological strength, clarity, and their contribution to both scholarly and public conversations. Emphasis is placed on research that demonstrates or has the potential to influence policy and practice, an increasingly important benchmark in contemporary academic publishing.
From a publishing perspective, the introduction of such an award represents a strategic and forward-looking initiative. Recognising high-quality research not only incentivises excellence among contributors but also helps to define and communicate the standards that a journal seeks to uphold over time. In doing so, it strengthens the journal’s identity within a competitive and rapidly evolving scholarly landscape.
Moreover, the Best Article Award reinforces GESPR’s role as a bridge between research and policy in the Gulf region. By prioritising work that is both academically rigorous and practically relevant, the journal continues to support evidence-based policymaking and informed public debate.
As GESPR continues to grow as a leading platform for education and social policy research in the GCC, the Best Article Award stands as a meaningful addition to its ecosystem, celebrating excellence, fostering impact, and helping shape the future of research in the region.
