Abstract:
The development of industrial areas is carried out with the aim of developing the potential of the region to be used as a container for driving the community’s economy. Industrial areas are established in areas that have potential and a fairly supportive ecological system. However, sometimes the development of industrial areas is carried out using the land conversion method where the area previously used as a place for absorbing groundwater and the reforestation sector is converted into industrial area development. This can be the main source of environmental degradation due to industrial waste, air pollution, and ecosystem damage. Rehabilitation of the industrial area environment is a strategic step to improve these negative impacts while supporting the transition to a green economy. This article discusses various approaches to environmental rehabilitation including ecological engineering, restoration of polluted land, application of environmentally friendly technology, and integration of circular economic principles. The research used a normative method, namely examining regulatory sources in the form of laws and regulations, supported by literature sources in the form of relevant journals, books, and articles. In addition, this study identifies a number of major challenges in its implementation such as weak enforcement of regulations, budget constraints, resistance from industry players, and minimal community participation. Through a collaborative approach between government, private sector, and civil society, as well as strengthening incentive-based and sanction-based policies, environmental rehabilitation of industrial areas has the potential to become a major pillar in building a sustainable green economy. This study is expected to provide theoretical and practical contributions in the development of environmental policies and the planning of environmentally friendly industrial areas in the future.
