Abstract:

A person with physical disability has many challenges and negative stigmas from society. Challenges and negative stigmas cause low self-acceptance of a person with physical disability. The impact of low self-acceptance is poor physical condition and poor mental health. Whereas self-acceptance is very much needed to carry out daily life functions. The problem of self-acceptance in a person with physical disability is currently common. However, there are people with physical disability who are able to accept themselves. This encourages in-depth research related to the dynamics of self-acceptance of a person with physical disability. This research can contribute to the development of interventions based on factors that can increase self-acceptance, which are explored more deeply in this study. The exploration of self-acceptance of a person with physical disability in this study was conducted using phenomenological methodology to examine personal experiences as deeply as possible. This study aims to explore self-acceptance in persons with physical disability. The results of this study are that the process of self-acceptance includes the process of individuals overcoming inferiority and despair by sharing strategies and social support from family and friends.
