Abstract:

Access to clean water in rural areas is crucial for public health, yet sustainable rural water management remains a significant challenge. Limited access is the main problem in sustainable water management in rural areas. The primary priority in addressing this issue is providing water infrastructure and developing appropriate technology. This study explores strategies for creating sustainable water management practices in rural areas using qualitative research methods with a single case study approach in West Java, Indonesia. We analyze current practices and identify potential solutions through semi-structured interviews. Findings highlight the importance of integrating community participation and technological innovations to improve water distribution, detect leaks, and enhance overall system efficiency. Practical implications include recommendations for policymakers, rural-owned enterprise managers, and stakeholders to prioritize investment in water infrastructure and technology development. Rural areas can achieve sustainable water management goals by empowering communities to participate actively in water management and leveraging innovative solutions. This study’s uniqueness lies in its holistic approach, addressing both technical and social aspects of sustainable rural water management to achieve community well-being and fill research gaps in environmental management accounting.
