Abstract:

This research employs a multidimensional approach to assess food insecurity, with a particular focus on the islands of Sumenep. It draws upon data from the Indonesian Food Security Agency, as well as local potential factors related to food availability, including food potential, facilities, and infrastructure. Additionally, it considers social capital as a key dimension of food insecurity. The investigation of the factors that contribute to food insecurity is conducted through the measurement of food insecurity dimensions in accordance with the composite index established by the Food Security Agency, the assessment of food potential using location quotient, and the analysis of the causes of food insecurity through multiple linear regression. The most significant growth in food commodities over the past 3 years has been observed in the case of corn. The food needs of the Gayam, Nonggunong, and Kangayan sub-districts can be met from domestic potential, with the exception of soybean commodities, which remain in deficit. The production of rice in Sumenep is significantly influenced by a number of factors, including the extent of land dedicated to rice cultivation, rainfall patterns, population density, and the prevailing market price of rice. The production of corn in Sumenep is significantly influenced by the area of land dedicated to corn cultivation and the exchange rate between farmers.
