Media Literacy as a Means of Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue Amid Globalization

Abstract:
Media plays a crucial role in shaping intercultural and interfaith perceptions and social interactions in the globalization and digital revolution era. This study explores the potential of media literacy to facilitate constructive dialogue between different cultural and religious groups. By reviewing relevant literature and analyzing successful media study cases, it aims to assess the effectiveness of media literacy programs in enhancing understanding and tolerance. It focuses on how social media and digital platforms can strengthen inter-community relationships, overcome prejudice, and promote peaceful journalism. The results show that well-implemented media literacy can be an important catalyst in building intercultural competence and reducing potential conflict. However, significant challenges, such as the spread of misinformation and negative stereotypes, have also been identified and require more adaptive and collaborative strategies among stakeholders. This study recommends improving media literacy education at the community and educational institution levels and developing ethical and inclusive media policies. By addressing these barriers, media literacy has great potential to serve as a bridge between communities, fostering more inclusive and peaceful dialogue in an ever-evolving multicultural context.
