Abstract:
This study analyzes the numeracy and literacy culture in elementary schools. The research uses a survey method with a convenient random sampling approach. The results show that several numeracy and literacy culture aspects can be optimized, including: i. The principal and education staff serve as models in the 15-minute reading activity by actively participating, ii. A School Literacy Team (TLS) or a similar team formed by the principal, iii. Students are encouraged to keep a daily reading journal, iv. Students should compile a portfolio containing a collection of reading response journals, and v. Student response journals, from the results of reading books and textbooks, are displayed in the classroom and school corridors. The study recommends designing and implementing activity strategies that can cultivate numeracy and literacy in elementary schools.
