Abstract:
I present to the esteemed reader this linguistic research that examines the semantic aspects of some variant narrations in the book “Al-Jami Al-Sahih” by Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ismail Al-Bukhari (d. 256 AH), focusing on the version of Imam Abu Al- Hussein Sharaf Al-Din Al-Yunini (d. 701 AH). He was named after his village (Yunin), one of the villages of Baalbek. Imam Al-Yunini collected various investigations to make his version more accurate, with the assistance of the grammatical scholar Ibn Malik (d. 672 AH), author of Al-Alfiyyah, who attended his blessed sessions numbering 71 in total. Ibn Malik clarified and observed Al-Yunini’s reading and pronunciation, and Al-Yunini implemented Ibn Malik’s guidance. Al-Yunini’s version - may Allah have mercy on him - which he collected, transcribed, and verified in the Hanbali mosque in Baalbek, is considered one of the most precise versions of Sahih Al-Bukhari’s narrations.
The research includes a linguistic study of morphological and grammatical issues and their semantic analysis, limited by space constraints and page count requirements. As we know, linguistic levels encompass phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, and lexicology, which are unified levels in the Arabic language system. The variation does not exist in these levels themselves but rather in research tools and analytical methodologies. Words consist of letters, sentences consist of words, and text consists of sentences. Both pronunciation and meaning have their form and status in language semantics, which is about matching the form of pronunciation with appropriate meaning implications.
This book, in its variant narrations, contains approximately:
- 286 linguistic issues
- 67 semantic issues
- 62 issues related to Surah names
- 68 grammatical issues
- 8 phonetic issues
The research includes an introduction and types of semantics:
First: Phonetic and morphological semantics
Second: Grammatical semantics
In these types, the study focused on the differences in narrations and what Al- Yunini’s edition contained, including its precious insights and pearls of wisdom for this magnificent book, followed by the conclusion, sources, and references.
