The 2024 AAPA-EROPA-AGPA-IAPA Joint Conference
This collection contains selected articles from the 2024 AAPA-EROPA-AGPA-IAPA Joint Conference held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from November 5th to the 7th, 2024. This event was hosted by the Asian Association for Public Administration (AAPA), the Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA), the Asian Group of Public Administration (AGPA), and the Indonesian Association for Public Administration (IAPA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Administrative Reform of Indonesia, the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The conference was held to provide a platform to address urgent challenges in governance, institutional reform, and the evolving role of bureaucracy in a rapidly changing global landscape. A key focus was the importance of human capital in shaping effective and resilient public institutions.
This KnE Social Sciences issue contains 30 peer-reviewed articles exploring critical themes in public administration, governance, and policy innovation. Topics include the impact of digital transformation on bureaucracy, the role of AI and big data in policymaking, and the rise of algorithmic governance. The collection also addresses the challenges of post-pandemic governance, social inclusion, gender representation, and sustainability in public administration. The discussions build on recent findings from the 2024 Regional Human Development Report by the United Nations Development Program, which underscores the need for continuous investment in the capabilities of the public sector workforce to navigate an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world.
These articles will be of interest to academics, students, and professionals researching or working in public administration, governance, policy studies, economics, digital innovation, and institutional reform.
