Differences in Organizational Citizenship Behavior Based on Gender and the Big Five Personalities

Abstract:
To achieve excellence in an organization, maximum efforts are needed to improve individual performance, one of which is Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB). OCB is an action taken by individuals without formal demands or rewards from the organization, providing significant benefits to the organization. Gender and personality are factors that can differentiate OCB. Gender is the difference in roles, functions, status, and responsibilities of men and women, and personality is a unique and relatively long-lasting internal and external aspect of a person’s character that affects their behavior in various situations. This research focuses on the Big Five Personality theory, which divides personality into five dimensions: neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. The subjects of this study were 100 male and female employees taken with a convenience sampling technique. The measuring instrument used to measure OCB is the OCB scale, adapted by Grasiaswaty (2016), and the measuring instrument used to measure Big Five personality is the Big Five Inventory, adapted by Ramdhani (2012). The results showed no differences in OCB based on gender (p = 0.617), and there were differences in OCB based on Big Five Personality (p = 0.013). The personality dimension that has the highest OCB is openness to experience.
