Abstract:
Sexual communication between parents and teenagers has numerous benefits, including helping reduce premarital sexual conduct and promoting responsibility in sexual decision-making. Several researchers have used psychological measurement instruments related to parent-adolescent sexual communication, one of which is the Sexual Communication Scale (SCS). Although commonly recognised, this scale is less acceptable for usage in Indonesia because several of the themes covered do not reflect Indonesian traits or culture. This study aims to create a new instrument that is appropriate for the conditions in Indonesia. This necessity stems from the importance of parent-adolescent sexual communication in protecting physical health and improving mental health. The overall number of participants was 311, including 35 for the Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), 11 expert assessors or panels, 15 for the scale validation process, and 250 for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) testing. JASP software version 0.17.2 was used to do exploratory factor analysis (EFA) on the data. The results of the analysis of the KSOR instrument that has been prepared identify three factors in parent-adolescent sexual communication, namely information transfer, value transformation, and sexual material or themes.
