Abstract:
Urbanization in the major cities of Indonesia has resulted in high-density settlements, such Dupak Magersari in Surabaya. In recent years, people have desired to enhance the quality of their living environment through a variety of community-driven initiatives, one of which is the planning of a community center and renovating one of the houses so that it may be used for it. This research is important as a response to local people to improve their environment through community center design due to environmental conditions in high-density settlements areas that make them unhealthy and uncomfortable to live. This study aims to explore a design community center by using the participatory design approach as a method, which consists of survey phases to identify the settlement conditions generated by IHC rating tools. The findings of the assessment become the requirements used to design based on lighting quality, building acoustics, and thermal comfort.
